My Life as a Traveling Visual Stylist

Visual Merchandising, also known as Visual Styling, significantly effects the brands sales. Consumers notice these great attractions in the store front or window displays that cause them to stop and take notice of the new products. This could potentially entice consumers to come into the store to check out the latest merchandise assortment.

I worked as a visual merchandise contractor for Nike. I had 3 assigned stores, one of those stores included the "Kids Fly Zone" in Kids Footlocker retail stores. I enjoyed working in the field and traveling to different stores and executing the Nike Corporate standard based on the Visual Presentation Guide. While working with the Nike brand, I had the opportunity to attend monthly visual conference calls with Nike leaders and field merchandiser across the nation. Nike gave us a planogram that was out basic "template" for visual execution, however we also had liberty to show our creative flare. During these calls we were taught what components should be included in a store visual display and that it should tell a color story.

The images above and below are some examples of my completed displays. These cohesively tell ONE color story because the color palette of the products are the same. Furthermore, each of the mannequins are wearing the same style of shoes, some are in different colors, however it is the same shoe. This is Nike's way of showcasing the latest footwear and give consumers examples of full outfits that would go well with the shoes. The clothes that are on the mannequins are new arrival items. However a story color story is present consistently. As a result, even the discount and sale merchandise, that is located in different locations, on the sales floor displays items that would allow the consumer to style an entire look. After all, the goal of the stylist is to simplify finding a trendy look.
