Victorian Vintage

The vintage inspired, Victorian influenced garments have been up and down the runways. Delicate femininity is the new fashion trend. The Victorian era, for womenswear, has been described as an ongoing tea party and you will notice the use of both antique lace and floral prints in many of the designer collections. Victoria Secret's annual fashion show epitomized this with one of their final looks. Model Marisa Miller owned this look with a corset style top with silk and lace fabrics. Although the hem of the skirt was short, the silhouette of it is very Victorian.

Designer Nadya Toto sent Victorian inspired silhouettes with a dramatic black color palette down the runway during Montreal’s Fashion Week. Some the things that are similar are high necklines, gloves and long skirts; however these symbolic Victorian features have been modernized. One garment in particular has a long hem in the back that gradually gets shorter, like a mini-skirt length, in the front. In addition, the dramatic high collar is not attached to the top; however it lies over the tube top. Finally, this season’s fingerless gloves are in this collection and are made of lace as to give it the vintage appearance with an edge.
