My Inspiration of the Day

I have always had an appreciation for all forms of art and architecture, like many others, just fascinates me. Architects all over the globe create some of the most intriguing and visually stunning buildings and skyscrapers. From the Lotus Temple in New Delhi and Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. To the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpar and Leaning Tower of Pisa. Tourist come from near and far to admire, as well as appreciate the artist artwork.

Designers are much like Architects in the Fashion & Apparel Industry. What many people may not know, is we draft patterns based on measurements to create samples similar to architects creating blueprints and models. Many designers use the world's most beautiful buildings as inspiration. Designers such as Zaha Hadid, Pierre Cardin (formerly of Christian Dior's tailleur atelier) and Tom Ford have incorporated shapes, silhouettes and textures into their collection pieces that are reminiscent of the shapes, color palette and textures found in infamous architecture.

I love to find "looks" that have textures, or garments that have unique fabrics, metal or spikes. I also feel drawn to pieces that are structured, strong shoulders and outfits that incorporate geometric shapes and/or prints. Sometimes I will dress in a blank canvas look ,if you will, like the classic "little black dress". When starting with a more simplistic base, I will most likely choose textured statement pieces or two that will mildly communicate this mood. Unfortunately, for MOST of us, the price point of the runway looks are something that is NOT affordable! So I often create a mood board of my own (like below) and begin my hunt for affordable finds that remind me of my inspiration.
